Yeah, it sucks your 5+ year old graphics card can't run a 2015 game, but Larian had to let go DX9/10 support to properly support multithreading. They probably could've let people still buy the old version, though. Not sure the reason it was basically entirely discontinued. #2.

To open the skull gate, you need to press all switches around. and yes it's worth it For the iron door, you can teleport one of your characters behind to get the key. Worth it too. Actually you do not need to press all the switches. Some are traps.
Play the enhanced edition. They made numerous changes to the game between each edition, balance and bug fixes, and some of the original players like playing the classic edition. There's some quality of life improvements in the enhanced, too. If you do a search you should be able to find a comprehensive list of changes.

steal his bloodstones asap, hidden in the cellar. Most interesting vendor can be unlocked at homestead. Snorri has no blood stones in his cellar, you probably mean the cellar of Loic's chapel. I agree though that the most interesting trader gear-wise - by far - is the one in the homestead.
